Waste
The waste issue
According to the research, about 70 million tons of waste were thrown out in Russia in 2021, all of them accumulate in landfills, polluting the air, water and soil. The tourism industry is one of the most important for the economies of many countries and regions, and travel is an integral part of modern life. At the same time, it is known that the tourism industry causes great harm to the environment, emissions, pollution, garbage waste – all this negatively affects the environment, health and development as a result.
Every person at the hotel knows that our main goal is to minimize the garbage sent to the landfill, we do this by sorting and reducing waste. A thorough separate collection of garbage is carried out daily in the sorting room of the hotel. There is a two–color separation system at the workplace: recyclables are collected in containers with blue bags and stickers (everything that can be recycled), garbage is collected in containers with black bags and stickers (everything that cannot be recycled is sent to the landfill). Recyclables are sorted into different fractions, including cardboard, wastepaper, can, aluminum, glass, plastic, polystyrene, batteries, light bulbs, paper packaging carton Tetra pak, plastic wrap and others.
In 2020, we started with some of the easiest fractions to collect: cardboard, glass, plastic bottles and wrap. After a while the list was expanded to 18 fractions, which are taken by our supplier, stored, pressed, crushed and transferred to processing plants or manufacturers as raw materials for production.
Waste sorting
In 2020, we started with a few of the easiest fractions to collect: cardboard, glass, PET bottles, film. Over time, the list was expanded to 18 fractions, which are taken by our procurer, accumulated, pressed, crushed and transferred to processing plants or manufacturers as raw materials for production.
Plastic pollution
Every year, more than 35 million tons of plastic pollution are produced on Earth, and about a quarter of this amount ends up in water. Another example of reasonable consumption is the refusal to use plastic, we started this difficult process with the withdrawal of plastic straws from circulation. One straw weighs less than 0.5 grams. But in total, plastic cocktail straws account for 4% of all global waste, which is about 2 thousand tons of 9 million plastic that enters the water annually.
Since 2020, the hotel's restaurants have abandoned the use of plastic straws. The average monthly reduction in consumption was 1.7 thousand units.
Thus, in 2021, we abandoned the use of 20,600 plastic straws, saving approximately 8.6 kg of plastic waste.
Transition to reusable dispensers
We strive to ensure that our waste receives a second and third life, therefore we avoid the use of disposable products, preferring reusable and high-quality analogues, paying attention to the replacement of disposable plastic. Our changes are confirmed by the international SUP-Free certification.
Reusable dispensers are installed in hotel rooms instead of small bottles with cosmetic products. Guests will not find small pieces of soap in plastic packaging, which often remain underused, in their place there are beautiful dispensers with soap produced according to strict eco-certification requirements. We buy all cosmetics in a large containers, which we then hand over for recycling.
Bamboo Toothbrushes
There are no plastic toothbrushes in the rooms, they are replaced with bamboo ones, which last much longer and go on a trip with their owners.
Layout in the rooms
You can reduce the use of disposable plastic by changing the layout in the rooms. In TASIGO hotels, guests will find a set of the most necessary things, if it is not enough, upon request, the staff will promptly bring an additional towel or hygiene products.
Informing guests about the correct sorting
The wastebaskets in each room are equipped with paper inserts informing the guest about the proper sorting. This is the way guests contribute to the competent work with waste, imbued with this idea, spreading it in their homes and offices.
Sustainable packaging in restaurants
In an effort to abandon single-use plastic, we were supported by the sugar supplier by offering to carry sugar for coffee in beautiful paper packaging, which is simply recycled along with waste paper. The paper is FSC certified, which means that it does not contain illegally cut wood or valuable and rare species.
In restaurants, all packaging for food transportation is made from compostable materials, without plastic.
Minimizing the use of plastic items also occurs in the spa area, we refuse as much as possible disposable consumables in favor of more comfortable and pleasant reusable items such as bath sheets or skin bandages.
